She doesn’t really have any political ideas, in the classic sense of the word — in fact the only thing resembling real political convictions in Going Rogue revolve around the Trans-Alaska pipeline and how awesome she thinks it is. Most of the rest of the book just catalogs her Gump-esque rise to national stardom (not having enough self-awareness to detect the monstrous narcissistic ambition that in reality was impelling her forward all along, she labors in the book to describe her various career leaps as lucky accidents or mystical acts of Providence) and the seemingly endless parade of meanies bent on tripping her up along the way. The book is really about her battles with these people, how much they did and do suck, and how difficult and inherently unfair life is for a decent hardworking American gal who just wants to live life, serve God, and try to be president without being bothered all the time.”

OmmWriter is a new full screen and distraction free writing environment for the Mac. The best way I can describe it is that it is what would happen to WriteRoom if Brian Eno got a hold of it. It features a resizable input area, text size and style options, background options, and ambient music and keyboard sounds (which can, thankfully, be turned off). It can save either in it’s native format for easy relaunching or as plain text.

It is still in beta so there may be even more features coming. It’s worth a look for sure. I could easily see it being part of a perfect “writing mac” setup – just leave it up and running and set the default save location for your Dropbox or a server. Make sure to click through and watch the video on the site to get a better sense of how it works.

Licensing your music to a commercial outlet doesn’t inherently make the music worse, and often music is resilient enough to overcome the commercial message. But under certain circumstances the music and message become inescapably intertwined. And of course those circumstances and opinions may vary.

Though I design web banner ads, I have never, nor will I ever, design one of those horrifying ab and tooth ads, any ad that mentions Obama and Mom’s in the same sentence~~, or any ad that uses sexy women to sell utterly useless products~~.

If you charge a single penny for your “art” you’re a “sell out.” I’m thrilled I was fortunate enough to find companies to pay me for music years ago. The idea of sitting in an abandoned warehouse living in squalor so I could remain pure and unadulterated in my “ahhhhrt” is absolutely abhorrent to me, and, I think, a rather childish, if dreamy, notion.
